Medicare Supplement and Advantage Sales:
Both agents and agencies can benefit from adding Medicare sales to their practices. They benefit in multiple ways among which are strong comp and renewals. One of the best products for referrals, keeps other brokers away from your clients and is a great door opener product. Agents and agencies working the senior market are leaving substantial revenue on the table by not being able to offer Medicare plans. Your clients are going to get their plan from somewhere so it might as well be from you.

Medicare Supplement and Advantage Sales:
The first step is to determine which type of product you will write. Some agents and agencies only offer Medicare supplement plans while others offer Supplements, Advantage plans and part D drug plans. If you offer Advantage and Part D plans there are certification requirements for each company. Medicare supplements do not require certifications (except for The UHC Med Sup plan which does require some) Some companies also require an annual AHIP certification in order to sell Advantage and part D plans. United Healthcare is the only company that does not require an AHIP cert for agents to write their part D and Medicare Advantage plans. Agents complete all Company certifications (including AHIP) online. There is a cost for AHIP of $125 (if taken through United, BCBS or Aetna). It will cost $175 through the AHIP site. Agents/agencies that want to have a simple offering for their clients but want to do a minimum amount of certs will only offer Medicare supplements such as the UHC Medicare Supplement, Anthem and Combined. Others may want to add a full line of products so they will get set up to offer Medicare Advantage and Part D as well.
