    Broker Upline Change

    By Ed Crowe | | 0 comment | 31 January, 2022 | 0

    Medicare Broker Upline Change

Getting the best support from your upline is crucial to successful Medicare sales.  Submit a broker upline change.   Move to a better FMO!

The process for a Medicare broker upline change varies by carrier.   Below are many of the major carriers processes.   Looking for another carrier?   Call us at 203-796-5403.

    ACI (Aetna Medicare Supplement)

ACI requires a letter of release.   Otherwise, you can go 6 months without selling this carrier.   No blackout period applies for this carrier.

    Aetna Coventry

Aetna has its own release form.   Click here to download the Aetna Coventry notice of intent form.   This form submitted with an upline signature acts a release. Submitted without a signature, it acts as a notice of intent (NOI).  NOI allows you to change uplines after a 90 day wait.  Upload this from into Producer World.    Additionally, no upline signature required under certain conditions. Click here for details.

A blackout period applies for this carrier.  Aetna Coventry prohibits upline changes from October 1 through January 1.   Notice of Intent (NOI) forms must submitted by July 3rd.   The carrier processes NOI forms submitted during the blackout after January 1.

    Anthem

A letter of release from the current upline is all that is required.   If a letter of release isn’t available, you must notify the current upline of your intent to move.   Six months after the notification, proof of that notification (email or letter) is loaded into NoMoreForms.  You can submit business during this period.   The Anthem blackout period is October 1 through January 1.

Medicare broker upline change: Cigna Medicare Supplement

As with Anthem, Cigna Medicare requires a release letter from the current upline.  If you are unable to obtain a release, notify Cigna MS.   Cigna allows contracting with the new upline in 6 months.  No blackout period applies.

    Cigna Health Spring

Cigna Health Spring requires a release letter from the current upline.   Remember, that upline refers to the FMO or top of the hierarchy.   If unable to secure a release,  submit a request for release form.  Click here to download the Cigna Health Spring Release Request form.  Send this form to contractingmailbox@healthspring.com.  After 90 days, you can complete a new link for the new upline.   In addition, you can continue to write business.   This carrier does not require a release if you  been active with an upline for at least 90 days and have not written any business.

Blackout period  for hierarchy changes is  9/1 through 12/31.  All requests for self-release in process prior to 7-1 are honored if the hierarchy change paperwork is submitted on or before 10-15. All others must be resubmitted after January 1.

    Clover Medicare

Click here to download the Clover transfer form.    Email this completed form to lisa@croweandassociates.com.

    Devoted Health

Send an email to the support inbox for the 90 day release (agent-support@devoted.com).

    Medicare broker upline change: Emblem

Emblem requires a release.   If a release is not available, you must notify the carrier.   After 90 days,  have the new upline notify the carrier  to formally change the upline.

    Humana

Typically, Humana processed immediate releases  within 5 business days.  You need a release and MGA form. (Click here to download the MGA form.)   The black out period for an immediate release begins 9/30.

If your current upline does not give you a formal release, submit a request for a delated release.   To do this, send  the completed MGA form to your new upline.  In 90 days, you new upline will request a hierarchy change.   You write with current upline during that time.  The intent to move blackout begins 7/10.

    Molina

An agency Letterhead is not accepted.  Molina requires an internal  Immediate and Constructive Release Form.  Release goes into effect the 1st of the month, 90 days from when it was received.

Example – Release is received 01/10/2023, 90 days out will fall on 04/10/2023 and transfer will be effective 05/01/2023.   With a release, transfer is in effect the date the release is received.

Download the Constructive Release.  Download the Constructive Release.  Click here for the guidelines.

    Mutual of Omaha

Mutual of Omaha requires a carrier specific transfer form.  Click here to download the form.   MOO does not accept  transfers between 9/1 and 12/31.

    Prosperity

You must submit a letter of release from  your current upline for  and immediate release.  Alternately, you can go 6 months without submitting business.   No blackout applies.

Medicare Broker Upline Change: United HealthCare

If unable to obtain a release, submit an intent to move.   The wait period is 90 days. Submit an intent by sending an email to the carrier at shcerts@uhc.com.  Note your name, writing number and the name and writing number of the upline you would like to move to.

    Below is a sample.

My name is <your name>.   My writing number is 9999999.   I would like to change uplines to Crowe and Associates (2012909).

UHC will not process any hierarchy changes between September 1 and December 31.   UHC processes releases or intents expiring during that time  after 1/1 of the following year.

    Wellcare

If you are unable to obtain an immediate release,  request a hierarchy change via the agent portal.  Your new upline approves of the change via Agent Connect.  (Be sure to let your new upline that you have requested the change.)  Your new upline has 30 days to approve or deny. If denied or no response is received, Wellcare will not allow the upline change.  Once your new upline approves  the change,  an email will be sent to your current hierarchy requesting release. In 7 days or after the release is approved, which ever comes first, the hierarchy is changed.  The  blackout period is October 1st to December 8th.

    SCAN

Agents may change hierarchies once a year without a release. If the agent is with another agency, THE AGENT sends the request to scan (scanbrokercontracting@scanhealthplan.com) to move under the new agency.  And, SCAN processes releases immediately.  However, it processes any received after 15th the 1st of the next month.    No transfers between 9/15-12/1/2020 (with or without a release).

    United American/Globe Life

This carrier does not allow hierarchy changes.   If an agent wants to move to a new upline, they must need to terminate their current writing number.   This carrier pays renewal commission in excess of $500.  However, renewals under $500 a month are forfeited.

To maintain a seamless transition, request a contract with the new upline.   When the carrier processes this request they will reach out to the agent notifying them that they will need to terminate the current number.

If an agent cannot secure a release, they must go 6 months without selling to change uplines.
