Medicare Advantage vs Supplement Plans Sales

As you can see in this post, Medicare Advantage vs Supplement Plans Sales have a few differences.  Medicare Advantage plans are offered by private insurance companies.  Because these plans are offered as primary plans they replace  Medicare A and B.  In other words, the doctors of hospitals will bill the MAPD plan instead of billing  Medicare.  MAPD plans provide Medical coverage, drug coverage (The part D benefit) and often times will provide ancillary benefits such as vision and dental.

If an individual does not want an advantage plan, they may want a Medigap or Medicare Supplemental plan.  Private insurance companies offer supplemental plans.  These plans are very different from MAPD plans. Supplemental Plans are secondary to Medicare. This means Medicare receives your medical bill first and the Medicare supplement plan receives a bill for the portion of your medical expense not paid by Medicare. In other words, MAPD plans pay the portion of Medical costs that Medicare does not pay. These plans do not pay primary like a Medicare Advantage plan does.  There are some distinct advantages and disadvantages to a supplement vs. an advantage plan.  When agents sell Medicare plans it is important for the agent to understand these positives and negatives in order to explain them to the client.
