Medicare Advantage Commissions 2022 amounts and max amount explanation
Max commission is the max compensation that an agent or broker can earn for an MA, PDP or 1876 cost plan. This is the amount for street level agents and is not providing amounts for agency level contracts such as GA, MGA and above. Commissions are specific to states. There are 4 buckets of state commission levels. They are CT,PA and DC which is the second highest paying level, CA and NJ which is the highest. Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands are in a bracket which is the lowest. All other states are in the “National” level. Here are the amounts for 2022:
National level: Initial $573 and renewal $287
CT, PA, DC: Initial $646 and renewal $323
CA and NJ: Initial $715 and renewal $358
Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands: Initial $394 and renewal of $197

Medicare Advantage Commissions 2022: Referral fees:
MA Plans are $100 and PDP are $25 which is the same amount as 2021. Referral fees are the max that can receive for referring a client: This is not referring to a client referral fee which is a limit of $15
Initial vs True-up, pro-rata and Medicare supplements
MA, MAPD and PDP commissions are broken up into two payments. The initial payment will represent half of the initial year compensation and the true-up will be the second half of the compensation. True-ups are only paid in specific situations. In some cases, commissions are also pro-rated. To learn more about true up’s and pro-rata, you can watch our webinar on the topic. Medicare Advantage Commissions 2022: Medicare supplements
Medicare supplement commissions are different than MA, MAPD and PDP compensation. CMS does not offer guidance on the timing or amount of commissions for Medicare supplements. As a result, the compensation varies a great deal from company to company and state to state with Medicare supplements. Agents need to review commission schedules for each carrier or contact us to get the commission schedule for a specific supplement plan.
