Non Resident insurance license
You will need a non resident insurance license if you want to sell insurance products in states other than your resident state. The process to get one is very simple. There are no additional testing requirements and you only need to keep up your CE in your resident state. The only thing you need to do is navigate the NIPR website follow the rules for each state and pay money.
How to apply for a non resident insurance license:
You can go to the National Insurance Producers Registry to get the non resident license NIPR;
Once you are on their site, simply click on the licensing center. Click on the option to “apply for a license”. Then choose “non resident license”. You can quickly apply from there.
Please note; You will have a transaction fee to pay (about $6.00) and of course, a state licensing application fee for each state you apply to. The fee for each state may vary by quite a bit. Some are very low ($40 for example) while others seem to think it is a lot more work to get you licensed. Some states might charge as much as $250 or more.

Information you will need in order to apply for a non resident license:
- You will need your NPN number and/or your insurance license number.
- If applying for the first time, they will ask for your SS number or FEIN number.
- Individuals will be need to provide their DOB.
- Provide name, residency type and licensee name.
- Payments can be made electronically with either Visa, Mastercard, AMEX or an electronic check.

Biographic information; resident or business, if you have one.
Phone contact number; Phone number and fax number if they are still a thing
Web information; Website, if you have one and email address
Aliases; list any assumed, fictitious, alias or trade names under which you are either doing business or intend to do business.
Affiliations; only if you have an active affiliation with a business.
Work experience: fill in your work/employment history for the last 5 years
Answer yes or no to background questions
Now it is time to review your answers and set up the payment
You will get the option to print a receipt and an email verification once you submit the application. An estimate on processing time is also included for most states.
Once processed, you will be able to print the license
