    Scope of appointment 2019

    If you are an agent/broker you will need to always have a Scope of appointment available, this way you can protect both yourself and your client’s rights.  You must use a scope of appointment 2019 when you conduct a sales meeting for any Medicare Advantage or PDP plan.  This form is in place to protect potential clients from unwanted solicitation by agents/brokers who offer the plans.  Any agent who conducts an appointment must to obtain a signed scope of appointment form.  This is the case, weather you have an in-person, phone or email appointment.

    At first, CMS required the scope be signed at least 48 hours before the sales appointment.  At this time, The rule does not specify the amount of time the scope must be signed before the appointment. The requirement now states the client must sign the scope before you conduct the presentation.  The scope should be done before you start your discussion on any plan.  To see the recent changes to the Medicare Scope of Appointment form requirements, click here for the CMS update.

    The products listed on the Medicare Scope of Appointment 2019 form include:

    • Medicare Advantage plans, also called; Medicare Part C, MA or MAPD plans.
    • Stand-alone Part D Drug plans  (PDP plans)
    • Dental,Vision and Hearing Plans
    • Hospital Indemnity or reimbursement products
    • Medicare supplement/Medigap plans.

     

    What do you do with the completed Scope:

    Once your client has completed both the scope and the appointment, you are ready to submit your client’s application. You should submit both together to the appropriate place.  If you do the application electronically, you must send it in separately.  If your client chooses not to purchase a plan, you still need to keep the scope on file for no less than ten years.

    Many carriers include a scope with with their application forms.

    If you do not have one available, you can use a generic scope as long as it is an approved version.

    Please note; when you are selling a Medicare Supplement plan, you do not need a Medicare scope of appointment form.   Although, if you be talking about stand alone part D plans, you do need a scope for that.
