How and when do agents receive payments?
The 2021 Medicare Advantage agent compensation levels seem pretty straight forward. An agent places a case and gets paid the amount for the state they are selling in. It is not actually that easy. The amount and timing of the payment will be influenced by a number of factors
New to Medicare:
This one is easy. If the sale is someone new to Medicare, there will be a full payment without any pro rata reduction. It is important to note the payments will come in two halves. The initial payment and the True-up payment. The True-up will usually take 2 weeks to a month to come in.
Renewal:
The Medicare advantage agent renewal payment is half of the initial payment. As the name implies, you will get half of the initial payment when the plan renews in January. Renewal payments are for any case that was not new to Medicare or any case that is not new to MA or MAPD.
Pro-rata:
Any case that is not new to Medicare will be subject to a pro- rated payment amount. This means you will get paid based on the month the person become effective in the new policy. A case with a 6-1 effective date will be 50% pro-rated. In other words, the commission will be half of the initial/new commission.
