AHIP Medicare training 2021
If you plan to sell Medicare Advantage or PDP plans next year, you will need information on the AHIP Medicare training 2021. AHIP training for 2021 will open on June 22, 2020.
There have been some changes made to the AHIP Medicare training 2021.
This year’s AHIP requires agents to complete the review questions at the end of each module before they can move on to the next module. Feedback will be provided and there will be an unlimited number of attempts for these questions. AHIP decided to put this in place to help agents identify areas that they need to spend more time studying before attempting to take the final exam. These questions are in place to help participants study and the answers are not counted as a grade of any type.

The changes effect both new and returning agents.
Modules will now be easier to understand since AHIP has added headings for each module and also more precise content. This should make finding the answers you need quicker and more to the point. A FAQ section has also been added to the Medicare website to answer questions about AHIP training.

You can either register through the AHIP website to take the test or you can register through a carrier site. If you have register through the AHIP site the cost for the test is $175. You can save $50 by registering through a carrier’s certification site. This means you would only pay $125 for the test.
Note: Carriers also require agents to complete their company specific certifications in addition to AHIP
AHIP Medicare training 2021: Do all carriers require AHIP to be certified to offer MAPD and PDP plans?
Most do require AHIP in order to offer their MA, MAPD and PDP products. United Healthcare does not require that AHIP be completed however. The agent will need to complete the UHC certification in order to offer the products.
The AHIP test:
The test is 50 questions long and is open-book. There is a 2 hour time limit to take the test. You have 3 attempts to pass the test. If you do not pass by the third try, you will have to pay to take the test again. This will give you three more opportunities to pass.
Important: Some carriers will not let you sell their products if you have not passed the test in the first three tries.
Most carriers will allow agents to offer their products (MA and PDP) for those that need more than three attempts to pass the exam (AHIP must be purchased again after 3 attempts). There are some carriers that will not allow their products to be sold after 3 failed attempts however.
Reduction in modules for those that passed the previous year
Agents that successfully passed AHIP the previous year are allowed to skip modules 1-3 and take the exam if they choose. The exam will still have questions for all 5 modules however. Although the returning agent does not need to complete modules 1-3 they will now be required to answer the review questions on those modules.
2021 AHIP good for the remainder of 2020
The 2021 AHIP is now available. Those that did not take AHIP in 2020 but pass it in 2021 may sell for the remainder of the 2020 sales year.
