New Pre Existing Conditions Health Plan For Connecticut

The Connecticut Department of Social Services has introduced a new plan design and benefit structure for the Pre-Existing Conditions plan for CT residents.  The plan offers a premium of $381 per person with a deductible and coinsurance plans design.  The plan will now replace the failed Charter Oak experiment in Connecticut. Charter Oak will still accept enrollments but not those from people with substantial pre existing conditions.  Charter Oak has been poorly managed to say the least with a lack of understanding of how to administer it or underwrite the risk coming in.

Now with the new plan being funded by the U.S Department of Health and Human services the plan has new life.  There is not doubt that it will have a loss ration worse than that of Charter Oak but with the deep pockets of the Federal Government it would be assumed that they will subsidize the rates to keep them down for a much longer period of time.  For more information on the program you can go to Dept of Social Services info on Pre Existing Plan
